PHOEP and the Southwest Center for Public Health Preparedness (SWCPHP)

The University of Oklahoma (OU) applied for and received grant funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in October 2002 to establish an Academic Center focused on education/ training related to emergency preparedness for the public health workforce. The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, through the Center for Disaster Medicine and the PHOEP program, are the New Mexico partners in this project.

UNM HSC, in collaboration with the New Mexico Department of Health, is participating with OU to deliver education and training opportunities to the region’s public health workforce. Short courses with continuing education credit are available through the SWCPHP and many other academic centers around the country.
