Prerequisites

Applicants must have a minimum of:

  • 60 semester hours
  • GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  • A science GPA of 3.0
  • Grade of C or better on all prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be completed prior to September 1 application deadline. Course numbers listed below refer to UNM courses.

Science and Mathematics:

(These courses preferably taken within the last 7 yrs.)

  • General  Biology with lab (123 and 124L)

4 cr

  • General Chemistry with lab (121L/123L &122L/124L or 131L &132L)
8 cr
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II with lab (237, 247L &238, 248L)
8 cr
  • General Psychology (105)
3 cr
  • College Algebra (121 or Statistics or Calculus)
3 cr

Communication Skills:

(All English courses must be taken in the U.S.)

  • English: Writing or Literature
6 cr

Applicants with a bachelors degree or graduate degree need only complete the above prerequisite courses.

UNM Core Curriculum

Applicants entering UNM without a Bachelors' degree must satisfy UNM Core Curriculum requirements.  These requirements include, among others, English 101 and 102, a Fine Arts course, a Foreign Language course, two Social Science courses, and two Humanities courses.

  • Microbiology with lab
  • Organic Chemistry with lab
  • Biochemistry
  • Spanish or Other Regional Language
  • Nutrition
  • Basic Computer Skills

Clinical / Community Experience

We strongly recommend a minimum of 6 months in direct patient care and/or a significant community or cross cultural health care experience.  Applicants should attempt to work with, or shadow a Physician Assistant whenever possible.
