For Current Residents
The UNM Family Medicine Residency Program was established in 1973 to help address critical physician shortages throughout New Mexico. Our program balances urban, tertiary care training with a broad range of experiences in rural and medically underserved areas. Located in Albuquerque, the UNM program has placed over 50% of its graduates into New Mexico practices.
Family Medicine is the only specialty in New Mexico that offers multiple residency programs. There are affiliated “1+2” Family Medicine residencies in Roswell and Santa Fe. The first year of training is at UNM, with the second and third year taking place in Roswell or Santa Fe. The UNM program also collaborates with the independent accredited 3-year program in Las Cruces. See UNM Affiliated Programs (at the left) for more information.
