Medical Students

Family & Community Medicine's education mission is to improve the health of the people and communities of NM through the education of medical students, residents, physician assistants, public health students, community physicians, and faculty. The Department’s Vice Chair of Education is Martha McGrew, MD. The Department’s Education Council meets monthly.

 



The Department of FCM prepares medical students and residents to:

  • Provide high quality, personal, continuing and comprehensive primary care service in interdisciplinary, community-based practice sites
  • Address family, community, social and population dimensions of illness
  • Balance health promotion, public health and disease prevention with the diagnosis, treatment, and management of chronic disease
  • Practice in areas of need

The Department emphasizes community-oriented, problem-based education in its service/learning sites. Education of graduate trainees and undergraduate students occurs both in the greater Albuquerque area as well as rural areas throughout New Mexico.
