Sources of Aid


There are a number of books, articles, brochures, and internet sites that may help you in your financial planning and lead you to further sources of financial aid. Check with the School of Medicine Financial Aid Office or your local public library for details.

Association of American Medical Colleges. The AAMC has a number of useful on-line publications whose titles are listed below:

Grants Net features a targeted search engine for finding training and research funds for biomedical sciences students, including medical students.

The Access Group web page given below offers helpful information on financing (and free debt management software) by a leading provider of educational loans to graduate and professional students.

The Financial Aid Information website bills itself, with some justification, as "the most comprehensive annotated collection of information about student financial aid on the web."

Student Guide 2007-2008 from the U.S. Department of Education (Free). This U.S. Government publication provides an overview of federal financial assistance programs, which account for well over 80% of monies received by UNM students. The booklet is available through the School of Medicine Financial Aid Office; by calling 1-800-4-FEDAID.

Department of Education offers current information on federal aid programs, including the latest news about financial aid and links to detailed discussions of the William D. Fort Direct Loan – the program most utilized by UNM MD students.

The University of New Mexico Financial Aid Office on main campus offers general information about financial aid available to all UNM students.
