Biostatistics Support

Our biostatisticians provide a full battery of services to aid investigators.  Our support begins before the submission of the protocol and may continue through the publication of results.  A brief list of our services includes, but is not limited to, the following services:

  • Statistical design of experiments (prospective or survey)
  • Power analysis/sample size
  • Teaching/training in statistics
  • Assistance with methodology section of proposals and papers
  • Randomizes lists for design of statistical issues of data collection
  • Proper statistical analysis of data
  • Mathematical modeling
  • Advice on presentation of data
  • Assistance with results section
  • Assistance with referees report
  • Collaboration

Our biostatisticians are located in the new MRF building which is just east of the RIB building. You can make an appointment with them by using your GroupWise calendar. We have created instructions  on how to do this.

Informatics Support

Our informatics unit provides computer support and data management.  We provide researchers with the necessary information for them to ensure the security and integrity of their data.  We provide a number of services including:

  • Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) databases
  • Design of data entry and retrieval
  • Teaching/training in computer applications
  • Resource for PC hardware/software decisions
  • Data conversions from a variety of computer platforms/software
  • Computer connectivity to and from the GCRC
  • Assist with slide/poster presentation of results
  • General resource for computing issues

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, web-based application designed exclusively to support data capture for research studies. REDCap provides: 1) an intuitive interface for data entry (with data validation); 2) audit trails for tracking data manipulation and export procedures; 3) automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to common statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R); 4) procedures for importing data from external sources; and 5) advanced features, such as branching logic and calculated fields.

We are located in the MRF building on the corner of Frontier and Vassar about 4 buildings East of the college of Pharmacy. Call or stop by to see how we can be of service.
