Ivy Berres of Neonatology was welcomed as a new member.

Guardian Disability Insurance – Barry Markman, MD, Geri Everett

Representative of Guardian Disability (HSCA) presented basic information to the coordinators regarding the resident disability insurance conversion option.  It is important those residents who are completing their programs be presented with the option of converting their group policy to an individual one upon completion of their programs.  GME is dependent upon the programs to obtain timely information on who is completing the programs so residents may obtain conversion information.  Geri Everett will be the local sales representative.

NRMP

Programs were reminder of important dates for the NRMP.  The quota change deadline is 1/31/07.  Program who are decreasing or increasing the number of positions through the NMRP rank order must request the change in component prior to 31 January 2007.  Rank Order entry dates for intern programs are 14-15 February 2007.  A schedule of entry times for each department was distributed.

NRMP Rank Order Download Demonstration

Dolores Garcia, and Gretchen Batton of Family Medicine presented a demonstration on how to download your rank order list and submit to GME.  Programs can submit the rank order list in a manner which is most convenience for their department.  Those who submit the information electronically must accept responsibility of the accuracy of the rank order list.  Those who come to GME to enter the data will be able to review the data with a representative of the Office of GME prior to submission.

After the Match

Important dates around the match were distributed.  The fact sheet from the NRMP revealed which dates student would know if they matched, programs would know if they filled, and Match Results would be posted to Web on 15 March 2007.  Departments should submit offer letters to those who match with their program within one week if possible.  Files of interns and fellows should be submitted to the Office of GME by 22 March 2007.  The data will be entered into the GME database and the GME Credentialing Packets and welcome letters from GME should arrive to the interns and new fellows approximately 1 April 2007.

Important Dates

Dates for GME Orientations were distributed to the program coordinators so they also could include the date in the offer letters.  The dates are: GME Intern Orientation – 6/22-26/07, HO I to HO II Lab – 6/28/07 (web based curriculum, OSHA), and HO II+ Orientation – 6/29/07.  Orientation schedules will be distributed to the committee at a later date.

New Innovations

Programs were reminded of the institutional standard of tracking the following data in New Innovations beginning 1 March 2007. Items as minimal standards of tracking in NI are:  Duty Hours, Procedures if not through RRC, In service Exam Scores, GME Curriculum Completion, and Board Scores Pass/Fail rates.  Programs were strongly encouraged to use NI to track resident Sick/Annual/Educational Leave beginning on 7/01/07.

Round Table

CIR Election for Unionization will be held on 1/31/07.  Polling places were  distributed as well as the list of where people are scheduled to rotate and vote.  A list was provided of residents who requested to vote by mail ballot.  Programs were strongly encouraged for residents to exercise their right to vote.

-Farewell and thanks were offered to Becky Lindley who will be leaving GME at the end of January.

The next meeting is scheduled for 22 February 2007.
