Graduate medical education at the University of New Mexico is conducted by the Health Sciences Center to ensure that this institution:

Houseofficers and the University

The University of New Mexico, through the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, contracts with the Houseofficers of the University of New Mexico Affiliated Hospitals training programs. All Houseofficers are required to have a current signed agreement on file in the Office of Graduate Medical Education before entering the University of New Mexico training program. Salary and fringe benefit coverage can not be extended until a signed agreement is on file and appointment criteria have been met. Houseofficers scheduled for duty at the VA Medical Center who are unable to report will be responsible for informing the appropriate individual in the department at the VAMC and for signing in at VA Human Resources. If this is not carried out, it may be necessary to charge this time to Leave Without Pay or a Departmental Account. Houseofficers failing to comply with the terms of their contracts may be suspended without pay until such time as compliance is achieved or the contractual agreement with the University is terminated.
