Welcome

The Institute for Public Health was established in 2002 by the UNM School of Medicine with the purpose of more effectively engaging the School's education and research in New Mexico's pressing public health agenda.

IPH staff and faculty

Our mission is:

To improve health status and reduce health disparities in New Mexico, the Institute for Public Health promotes and coordinates public health research, education, and services through collaborations within the Health Sciences Center and with external partners. The Institute for Public Health supports the development of public policy using scientifically derived information and public dialogue.

IPH is now organizationally located within the Department of Family and Community Medicine. However, IPH will remain a distinct entity and its programs will continue.
