Public Health Education
Public Health Education is a set of programs that provide leadership in graduate and community-based public health education to improve the health of diverse populations in New Mexico, the Southwest, and the United States/Mexico border region.
- MPH Program
This is an accredited graduate program of the School of Medicine and is located in Albuquerque.
- MPH Extension Program at Shiprock
Established in 2003, the Shiprock Extension Program extends the MPH Program to offer on-site graduate-level instruction to develop community strengths and staff capacity for the Indian Health Services (HIS) and other agencies in the area.
- MPH Dual Degree Programs
The MPH degree can be obtained as part of a dual degree in collaboration with other UNM graduate degree programs. A proposal for a joint MPH/MD degree program for medical students has been submitted and is awaiting approval from the University. Anticipated start time is 2007.
- Certificate in Public Health
A 15-credit public health certificate for medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty is underdevelopment with courses soon to be piloted. The certificate provides systematic training in public health skills and community-oriented approaches to health care.
- The Public Health Outreach Education Program (PHOEP)
PHOEP offers non-credit short courses, workshops and certificates for persons in the public health workforce and communities.
- Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC)
The School of Medicine has applied for a planning grant from the NIH to develop faculty research capacity in clinical and translational research. The MPH is an integral component of the School’s proposal. The MPH will be developing a Research Concentration as an option within its curriculum as part of this effort.
