Chief-Carla Herman, MD, MPH
Dr. Herman is an Professor of Medicine in both the Divisions of Gerontology and Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. Dr. Herman graduated with both an MPH and M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. She went on to obtain her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Minnesota and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH where she also completed her fellowship in Gerontology. Dr. Herman has been at UNM since 1994 and is boarded in both Internal Medicine and Gerontology. She practices at Senior Health Center. She also a member of the Epidemiology and Cancer Control New Mexico Tumor Registry.


Sandra Qaseem, MD
Dr. Qaseem received her MD Degree from England, UK and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine where she also completed her fellowship in Geriatrics. She is board certified in both Family Medicine and Geriatrics and has been a faculty in Internal Medicine since 2005 and specializes in homecare. She is a member of the American Association of Home care physicians


Denise Zwahlen-Minton, MD
Dr. Minton received her MD Degree from University of MO, Kansas City and completed her residency at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. Dr. Minton completed her Geriatric Fellowship at the University of New Mexico. She is board certified in both Family Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Minton re-joined our faculty in Internal Medicine in 2006.

 


Mohammad Siddiqui, MD
Dr. Siddiqui received his MD Degree from Baba Raghava Das Medical College, India and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Marquette General Hospital. He obtained his Geriatric Fellowship at the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Geriatrics and has been a faculty in Internal Medicine since 2007. He practices at Senior Health Center and Manzano Del Sol Nursing Home.


Anne R. Simpson, MD
Dr. Simpson is an associate professor, completed her MD at the University of New Mexico and finished her Internal Medicine training and Gerontology fellowship at the University of New Mexico. She joined the faculty in 1998. Dr. Simpson is Director of the Ethics Institute.



Janice Knoefel, MD, MPH
Dr. Knoefel is a Professor of Medicine and Neurology based at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque. She has obtained her M.D. degree from Ohio State and her MPH from Boston University. Dr. Knoefel completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Cinncinati and her Neurology residency at Boston University Medical Center. She finished Geriatric Neurology fellowship at Boston University. She joined the faculty in 1996.



David Bennahum David Bennahum, MD
Dr. Bennahum is a Professor Emeritus. After graduating from the University of Geneva School of Medicine in Switzerland, Dr. Bennahum completed a Medicine residency at Roosevelt Hospital in New York and earned a fellowship in Rheumatology/ Immunology. He specializes in Rheumatology and Gerontology. Dr. Bennahum speaks fluent French and is a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Bennahum practices at the Senior Health Center.



Judith Kitzes, MD, MPH
Dr. Kitzes received her degree from Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1974. She earned a fellowship in Geriatrics. She is board certified in General Preventive Medicine. Dr. Kitzes is also the Section Chief for Palliative Medicine.
