Chief Robert Hromas, MD
Dr. Hromas completed his MD degree from the University of Texas Medical School
at Houston Texas and his internship and residency from the University of Iowa.
He completed his Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology from the University of
Washington, Seattle, Washington.
Ian Rabinowitz, M.D.
Dr. Rabinowitz is board certified in both Hematology and Oncology and obtained
his MD degree from the University of Witwatersrand Medical School, Johannesburg,
South Africa. Dr. Rabinowitz completed his internship at the Johannesburg
General Hospital and his residency in Internal Medicine at the Vanderbilt
University Medical Center Nashville, Tennessee. He finished his fellowship in
Hematology/Oncology at Washington University, St. Louis, MO and is boarded in
both. He joined the faculty in 1997.
Fa-Chyi Lee, MD
Dr. Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Heme/Onc who obained his MD
from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. He finished his Internal
Medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in
Dallas, TX and completed a Hematology/Oncology fellowship at UCLA. He joined the
faculty in 1999.
C. Richard Lyons, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Lyons is an Associate Professor at the Cancer Research and Treatment Center
since 1994. He obtained his Ph.D. and M.D. degrees from the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. He completed his Internal Medicine
residency and his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the Brigham and Woman's
Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Lyons joined the faculty in 1994.
Aroop Mangalik, M.D.
Dr. Mangalik is a full Professor and joined the faculty in 1983. He obtained his
MD degree from the All India Institute of Medical Science in India and completed
his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago in Illinois. He
obtained his fellowship training at the University of Utah in Salt Lake. Dr.
Mangalik is also the Clinical Director of the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment
Center.
John Saiki, MD
Dr. Saiki graduated from McGill University, Canada in 1961 and completed his
residency training in Internal Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital and in
Pathology at the University of North Dakota. He is board certified in Internal
Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Saiki is a professor at the University of New
Mexico Department of Medicine.
Cynthia Cathcart, M.D.
Dr. Cathcart completed her M.D. degree at the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical School in Dallas, Texas and completed her Internal Medicine training at
the Methodist Medical Center in Dallas. She is boarded in Internal Medicine and
is based at the Veteran's Medical Center. Dr. Cathcart joined the faculty in
1997.
Thomas Kirby, M.D.
Dr. Kirby is an Research Assistant Professor who joined the faculty in 1989. He
obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas, Houston.
Joseph Saiers, M.D.
Claire F. Verschraegen, M.D.
Dr. Verschraegen will serve as the Director of Experimental Therapeutics and
Clinical Investigations at the UNM Cancer Center. Dr. Verschraegen completed her
Medical degree in June of 1982 at the University Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels,
Belgium. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine in June of 1991 at the
University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. In September of 1992, she
completed an Internal Medicine fellowship at the Clinique L. Caty in Baudour
Belgium. She completed a Medical Oncology fellowship in September of 1994 at the
University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
