Attending Physicians
The UNM Cardiac Cath Lab is under the direction of Mark J. Ricciardi, MD and
includes 4 full-time UNM School of Medicine Interventional Cardiology Faculty.
The mission of providing high quality care is shared by all and complemented by
the depth and breadth of experience of the interventional faculty, where the
average number of years experience in the cath lab is over 15 years.
The physician members of the Cath Lab Team are:
Mark
J. Ricciardi, MD
Dr. Ricciardi is Director of Interventional Cardiology and the Cardiac
Catheterization Laboratories at the UNM Health Sciences Center, Associate
Professor at the Medical School, and is board certified in Interventional
Cardiology. Since joining UNM in 2006, Dr. Ricciardi has worked to grow the
interventional cardiology program at the Health Sciences Center and has
spear-headed several initiatives aimed at improving access to expert invasive
cardiac care, improving quality, and adding to the depth and breadth of services
performed in the UNM Cardiac Cath Labs. Dr. Ricciardi performs all modalities of
coronary intervention, peripheral vascular / endovascular intervention,
valvuloplasty, and PFO / ASD closure.
Strongly devoted to patient care, Dr. Ricciardi is also keenly interested in
fellow education and cardiovascular research (Cardiac Cath Lab Education and
Research). He organizes and presides over the UNM Cardiac Cath Conference and
the clinical research program which provides the background for the cutting edge
environment that exists in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
Warren Laskey, MD

Dr. Laskey is the Division Chief for the Heart and Vascular Center, Professor of
Medicine at the Medical School, and is board certified in Interventional
Cardiology. He is past president of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography
and Interventions (SCAI) and member of the FDA’s Circulatory System Devices
Panel recently involved in drug eluting stent oversight and congenital heart
disease device approval. Dr. Laskey maintains his long-standing interest in
interventional cardiology, especially as it pertains to valvular and congenital
heart disease.
Larry
Osborn, MD

Dr. Osborn is Professor of Medicine at the Medical School, is board certified in
Interventional Cardiology and has been practicing interventional cardiology at
UNM since the 1980s. A fixture in the education of fellow training, he is an
active member of both the UNM and Albuquerque VA Cath Labs. Dr. Osborn is
actively involved in the division’s quality improvement process and provided
early leadership in the effort to improve time to treatment for acute ST
elevation MI.
Mark
Sheldon, MD

After spending 5 years as attending physician at the Albuquerque VA Medical
Center, Dr. Sheldon returned to fellowship training in interventional cardiology
and was recruited back as Interventional Cardiology Attending Physician,
Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Medical School, and medical director of
the cath labs at the Albuquerque VA. He is board certified in Cardiology. Dr.
Sheldon’s focus is on patient care, fellow education, and clinical research.
Physician Assistant
Donna Pham, PA-C
Donna Pham is the University of New Mexico School of Medicine
Health Sciences Center Interventional Cardiology Physician Assistant.
She completed her studies at the UNM SOM Physician Assistant Program. Donna is board certified in
Physician Assistant Studies. Her interests are interventional cardiology, patient education,
heart disease prevention, and women's heart health.
