Cardiac Cath Lab Research and Education:
The UNM Cardiac Cath Lab provides the invasive and interventional cardiology
education for all of New Mexico’s medical students and physicians-in-training
and many non-physician health care workers in the state.
In addition to
providing the environment for learning within the cath lab, the medical director
organizes and presides over the UNM Cardiac Cath Conference, which provides a
weekly forum for academic discussion of the major topics of the day in invasive
and interventional cardiology. The cath lab attendings also oversee the
individual growth of the cardiovascular fellows participating in their invasive
cardiology rotations at both UNM Hospital and the Albuquerque VA. In addition to
the attending physicians, all members of the cath lab team mentor and educate
nurses, technicians, and ancillary medical staff in many different departments.
Clinical research, both multi-center and institutionally derived, is of great
interest to the attending staff and provides the background for the cutting edge
environment that exists in the Cardiac Cath Lab. For information regarding
on-going trials and research, see the
Cardiology
Division home page or call the Cath Lab Medical Director’s office.
