

Services Provided
Significant changes are under way at the UNM Health Sciences Center, and at the
Heart and
Vascular Center and Cardiac Catheterization Lab, in particular. Much
of the change revolves around an institutional commitment to bolstering patient
care and the cardiovascular service line. Under the direction of the Medical
Director, Dr. Mark J. Ricciardi, the UNM Cath Lab has instituted or further
developed the following services:
“One phone call” approach for direct-to-cath lab transfer for STEMI
(click for
Project AMI initiative)
Stream-lined patient transfer process for urgent
transfers (acute coronary syndromes, unstable angina, etc.)
Coronary interventions. All percutaneous
revascularization modalities available, including drug-eluting stents,
bare-metal stents, atherectomy, thrombectomy, intravascular ultrasound,
flow-wire.
Non-coronary cardiac interventions, including
PFO/ASD closure, balloon valvuloplasty.
Peripheral vascular interventions, including renal
artery and lower extremity angiography and interventions.
Unparalleled fixed-wing air ambulance critical
care transport, including transportation of patients with 
intra-aortic balloon pumps
