Professor of Medicine and of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Chairman, Department of Internal Medicine
Pope Moseley, M.D., M.S. is the new Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. He assumed his new post on October 1, 2001.
Dr. Moseley was the Associate Dean of Research, a position he held since August 2000. He is also a Professor of Medicine, with joint appointments in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. For the past 6 years, he has also served as the Division Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Moseley previously directed the University's Program in Occupational and Environmental Health.
In addition to his clinical and administrative duties, Moseley will continue his active research effort, funded by the National Institutes of Health, as a member of the Infectious Disease and Inflammation Program at UNM. He is an internationally recognized authority on heat stress and the regulation of the heat shock response. Dr. Moseley also directs one of the 28 national Environmental Health Sciences Centers funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Before coming to the UNM School of Medicine in 1995, Dr. Moseley was an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa, College of Medicine. He attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine and also holds a Masters in Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health from the University of Iowa College of Medicine.
