The Division of Rheumatology at UNM is under the leadership of Dr. Arthur D. Bankhurst, Professor of Medicine and Immunology, and is committed to providing outstanding care of patients with the full range of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, promoting programs of excellence in basic and clinical research, and offering state-of-the-art training to medical students, house officers, fellows, and other health professionals. In the pursuit of these goals, the Division has refined its systems for the delivery of clinical care while investing resources to enhance its teaching and research programs.
The mission of the fellowship program in the Division of Rheumatology is for our physicians to become highly trained and competent practitioners in the field of rheumatology. It is expected that graduates of this program will possess superior clinical skills, a broad depth of knowledge base in rheumatology and relevant clinical and basic sciences, be capable to work in a variety of settings, a capacity for critical thought and problem solutions, a high standard of professional ethics, and possess habits of life-long learning to build upon their knowledge, skills and professionalism.
