Arthur Bankhurst, MD

Dr. Bankhurst received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed post doctoral training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at the University Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. Subsequently, Dr. Bankhurst spent 2 years in the U.S. Navy as a general medical officer. After the Navy, he spent an additional 4 years in research laboratories in Geneva, Switzerland and Melbourne, Australia.
Thereafter, Dr. Bankhurst joined the University of New Mexico where he has practiced ever since. Dr. Bankhurst is now a Professor of Medicine and the Chief of Rheumatology. He has published over 200 papers in scientific journals. As part of his rheumatology practice, Dr. Bankhurst is involved in an outreach program which is extending rheumatology care throughout the state of New Mexico as part of the ECHO project. In addition, Dr. Bankhurst is the fellowship director, training new rheumatologists every year.
Terry Du Clos, MD, PhD

Dr. Du Clos received his Ph.D. in Immunology in 1977 from the University of Chicago and his M.D. in 1981 from Rush Medical College. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Rush-Presbyterian St Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and his fellowship training in Rheumatology at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in San Diego. He is board certified in Internal Medicine since 1985 and Rheumatology since 1988. Dr. Du Clos is a professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and at the University of New Mexico and Chief of Rheumatology at the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Medical Center. His areas of research include autoimmunity, inflammation, serum amyloid P component and C-reactive protein, and he has received a number of research grants from the VA, National Institutes of Health and others for his research. He is an author or reviewer on more than sixty peer-reviewed articles, invited journal subject reviews, editorials or book chapters.

Roderick Fields, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Dr. Fields is a native New Mexican, born in Silver City, New Mexico, and raised in Las Cruces. He graduated from the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Texas Tech in 1984. Dr. Fields graduated from the University of New Mexico Rheumatology Fellowship in 1988 and has spent the majority of his medical career in his hometown of Las Cruces in private practice. Dr. Fields also teaches and mentors medical students.
Konstantin Konstantinov, MD
Associate Professor of Medicine

Dr. Konstantinov is a native of Bulgaria. He graduated medical school in Sofia, Bulgaria, and completed his residency and fellowship in Dermatology at the University Skin Clinic in Sofia, Bulgaria. His Ph.D. degree on immunology of systemic lupus erythematosus started his life-long interest in autoimmune-connective tissue diseases. After a sabbatical at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, he moved to the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA and later to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Currently, he is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
Dr. Konstantinov joined the University of New Mexico in 2003. He splits his time between the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico. In the last several years, he is involved in developing a hand-held biosensor that can be used in near real time to measure autoantibodies of diagnostic and prognostic significance. Dr. Konstantinov also teaches medical students at the University ‘s School of Medicine.
Wilmer Sibbitt, MD

Born and raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico, Dr. Sibbitt attended the University of New Mexico where he received a B.A. in Chemistry. After receiving his degree, Dr. Sibbitt continued his education at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine receiving his medical degree in 1977. After completing his residency at the University of Arizona, Tuscon, he returned to UNM to do a Rheumatology fellowship. Dr. Sibbitt is a full professor, specializing in lupus. He has a passion for research and writing.
