PURPOSE, MISSION AND HISTORY OF THE KUGR FACILITY: The Keck-UNM Genomics Resource was established with funds from the UNM Health Sciences Center, the School of Medicine, the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center and with a grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation. The goal is to facilitate genomics-based research in the School of Medicine and in the Health Sciences Center, especially through microarray-based assays of gene expression. The Genomics and Microarray Facility was founded in late 1999 with the purchase of a GeneChip microarray hybridization, scanning and analysis instrument package from Affymetrix. These instruments were purchased with funds from the UNM Health Sciences Center, the UNM School of Medicine and the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center. In July, 2000, the W.M. Keck Foundation awarded a grant of $1 million to establish a new microarray printing and analysis facility, and to begin a novel genomics-based collaboration between UNM's UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center, Sandia National Labs and UNM's High Performance Computing Center. Since July, 2001, the KUGR facility has been supported in part by Tobacco Settlement funds made available from the UNM School of Medicine, and by funds from the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center and the UNM NIEHS Center. |
