A resource for mentoring biological scientists (women and men) at all career levels.
Notes from the Founder:
My goal was to organize a mentoring group and resource clearing-house primarily for female junior faculty (tenure and research track Assistant and Associate Professors), and also for postdocs and senior graduate students who are focused in basic science research. Participation of women Full Professors is encouraged and sought in any and all capacities. All other women in science, clinical or basic/translational are welcome to participate.
UNM-WISDOM meets monthly (Second Wednesday) to discuss topics related to scientific careers and of interest to the >85 total women participants. Each session is dedicated to a specific pre-determined topic, and often involves a group leader or speaker. Topics have included: Why mentoring? What is mentoring? Grant Writing, Learning to say ‘no,’ Life-work balance, Flexible tenure-track paths, Women and their roles as leaders in academia, Preparation of CVs and research plans, Authorship, Creating a teaching portfolio.
