Martina Stippler is Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of Neurotrauma at University of New Mexico Hospital. She also serves as Clinical Director of brain trauma research at the University of New Mexico. She joined the UNM faculty in 2009.
Dr. Stippler completed her undergraduate work at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, where she defended a thesis investigating the role of biochemical markers in cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage. She completed her medical and doctoral education at the University Hospital of Innsbruck. She completed her residency in neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh where she also completed a master’s degree in clinical science.
Dr. Stippler’s research involves the development of therapeutic interventions to manage brain and spinal cord injury. Dr. Stippler is currently researching the value of biomarkers in the diagnosis of traumatic brain injury.
Widely published in refereed journals, Stippler has also authored several textbook chapters, and has received awards for scientific research. She is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the National and International Neurotrauma Societies.
