Dr. Turner a native of Carrizozo, New Mexico. He attended Duke University, Hahnemann Medical College and completed his neurosurgical training at the University of Washington in 1974. He previously served on the faculty of UNM School of Medicine, from 1975 through 1980. He practiced general neurosurgery with special interest in pituitary tumors and degenerative spine disease in Roswell, New Mexico and Pensacola, Florida. In 2002 he rejoined the Neurosurgery faculty at UNM School of Medicine and is the Vice-Chairman of the Department.
In 1992 and 2002 he served as visiting lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Medicine.
