Milagro Program

The Milagro Program is a perinatal substance abuse prevention and treatment project that provides an array of services to alcohol and other drug dependent pregnant or postpartum women and their children. These services include high risk prenatal care, substance abuse treatment, nursing care management (prenatal and post partum), delivery, inpatient care, parenting classes, and pediatric follow up. Services providers include the Milagro Program Substance Abuse Counselors and Nurse/Case Managers, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bernalillo County Health Department, the University of New Mexico Center for Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, and Addictions, University Hospital's Newborn Nursery, and the Peanut Butter and Jelly Therapeutic Preschool. Currently services have been extended to non-pregnant women.

Substance Abuse Treatment

Substance abuse treatment for the alcohol and other drug dependant women admitted to the Milagro Program is provided through a sophisticated linkage of the primary health care providers and those with a substance abuse treatment background, including the Milagro Nurse/Case Managers and Substance Abuse Counselors.
