Medical Student Mentorship Program
The Medical Student Mentor Program was created to provide Phase I students
with a faculty mentor who will be available to provide advisement and
advocacy for the student. This program is designed to help with student
career counseling, student support and to fulfill one of the requirements
for reaccreditation by the LCME for our medical school.
When possible, the faculty mentor assigned to a Phase I-1 student is someone
with whom the student has met and will be working with during the first
semester, such as the preceptor for the Ethics group during Perspectives in
Medicine (PIM) or as the preceptor for Foundations of Clinical Practice.
The faculty mentor will meet with his / her 5 – 7 medical students as
a group at least once a semester and individually once or twice a year and
as needed. This mentor / mentee
relationship continues until the student is promoted to Phase II at which
time the student is paired with a career advisor.
