Resident and Graduate Assisted Placement Services (RAPS & GAPS) strives to increase UNM health professions graduates choosing to practice in underserved areas in New Mexico.
Functions of the program are to:
- Inform prospective UNM health professions graduates and trainees about practice opportunities in NM.
- Provide seminars to enhance life-skills including: conducting a job search, coping with practice realities, negotiating contracts (Small Business Law Center | Miller Stratvert P.A., Deborah Solove), repaying loans and planning for a successful practice.
- Six seminars a year are taught by experts (lawyers, insurance sales people, state agencies and university staff). Seminars are attended by primary and sub-specialty medicine residents, graduate level nursing, ancillary and allied health professional students.

The program is operated by the Office of the VP for Community Health in collaboration with the Office of Graduate Medical Education.
