May-Hegglin anomaly. This is an autosomal dominant disorder associated with the presence of giant platelets, moderate thrombocytopenia and bright blue Döhle-body like inclusions in WBC that are composed of parallel filaments. Individuals with this anomaly are at risk for bruising, menorrhagia and complicated childbirth but 40% are asymptomatic. Photographs: John K. Scariano, University of New Mexico Department of Pathology
