Course Presentation:
Each student is scheduled individually in the chemistry laboratory, so as to receive instruction and perform all tests as specified in the performance objectives for the course. Students will be under the direct supervision of the clinical chemistry instructing technologists.

Minimum to maximum days for rotation per bench area in chemistry and serology are provided as a guideline. The amount of time spent on various automated analyzers may vary depending on the tests done on the instrument. Students will train on routine analyzers and in special chemistry to perform the tests on their checklists. Students are responsible for either assisting in a method evaluation, a QA/QC project, or presenting Tech Sample.

Sample rotation days for clinical chemistry:
.Specimen processing 1-2 days
Bulk/routine chemistry analyzer 5 days
Stat automated analyzer 3 days
Immunochemistry 1‑2 days
Toxicology/TDM 2 days
Serological test procedures 2 days

Basic Clinical Rotation Requirements:

  1. Student must meet all minimum levels of performance as specified on the Performance Evaluation Form
  2. Student must demonstrate a professional approach to their clinical practicum as specified in the MLS program's Professional Development form.

Evaluation:
Individual grades will be assessed for the Clinical Chemistry Practicum, MLS 351 based on the following:

Basic Clinical Chemistry Rotation:
Performance Evaluation Form 50% of final grade

Professional Development Form

50% of final grade

Grade for each section must be >72% for MLS to calculate the final grade. If < 72% in one section, then the grade for that section is the final grade.
