UNM Children's Hospital, located within University Hospital,
provides the most
advanced pediatric care available in New Mexico. Our care ranges from ambulatory care outpatient
clinics, to acute and emergency care, to inpatient units providing the highest level of intensive
care hospitalization. Each year Children's Hospital of New Mexico cares for over 40,000 children,
with more than 50 percent of them living outside of the Albuquerque area.
Our new state-of-the art Children's Hospital opened in 2007, with all new inpatient services, including a general pediatrics ward with 34-beds, a 20-bed hematology/oncology and specialty care unit, a 15-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, a 52-bed Newborn Intensive Care Unit, and a 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the new hospital includes a brand new, 24-hour pediatric emergency department.
Young Children's Health Center (YCHC) is a community-based pediatric clinic that provides comprehensive health services to families with children from birth to young adulthood residing in the southeast heights of Albuquerque. This is an impoverished area with a multicultural and multiethnic background. Families living in this area are challenged by complexities associated with extreme poverty and sense of isolation. In order to serve these families all 25+ staff are required to be bilingual. Special components to this clinic include home visitation, behavioral health services, case management, outreach activities to schools and the local community center and several other neighboring activities. Networking and collaboration with other community programs is a priority and a strength of YCHC. Children with special health care needs, including a large proportion of deaf children and their families, are a special interest to this program.
Hidalgo Medical Services: through the PARC program residents spend one month working in the small, rural community of Silver City, New Mexico. There you live the life of a rural pediatrician in this thriving community rich in arts and outdoor possibilities!
