Sheila Hickey, MD, Attending Physician, Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Why did I return to Albuquerque after my fellowship training? Several reasons...
UNM Children's Hospital is a terrific place for students, teachers, and patients. There's a terrific patient mix of basic bread and butter pediatrics as well as tertiary care pediatrics. The UNM School of Medicine is a leader in innovative medical student education. The faculty is friendly, informal, collegial, and interested in teaching. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!
Our faculty come from many backgrounds. They all, however, share important common interests: providing quality care to the children of New Mexico, and providing quality training in pediatrics to our housestaff. Many of our faculty were students or residents here, and have returned to the Land of Enchantment to practice, teach and raise their families. Below is a list of our faculty in pediatrics.
Javier Aceves:: Medical Director YCHC
From the
beginning of my tenure at YCHC I have been impressed by the clear sense of mission held by all staff.
The opportunity to serve in this community is unique given the sense of need, the quality of the staff and
the commitment to a vision throughout the past 22 years, to serve children and their families in a very
comprehensive manner. It is exciting to collectively plan to improve the health of the community through personal
interactions with families and collaborative networking with other community providers. The sense of community is
very strong. I thoroughly enjoy the residents that come through YCHC and love helping them discover the rewards of
working in a community based program.
