History
The UCSF Collaborative Research Network (CRN) is a PBRN of primary care clinicians and researchers working in a variety of settings and communities in Northern and
Central California. Established in 1984, the CRN is one of the longest standing PBRNs in the US. With funding from AHRQ, in 2000 the CRN was expanded to include
all physician members of the Community Health Network, the County of San Francisco Department of Public Health’s integrated health care delivery system. The
Community Health Network includes 12 primary care health centers affiliated with San Francisco General Hospital. All of the sites have been designated as federally
qualified health centers. This expansion has resulted in increased representation in the CRN on the part of physician providers that serve the urban and underserved
communities in San Francisco County.
CRN's Mission
The vision and mission statement of the CRN is “to contribute to the transformation of primary care through a research agenda that emphasizes innovations in
health promotion, preventive health, and chronic illness care.”The network builds on a tradition of working closely and collaboratively with both academic
researchers and community-based clinicians to create new knowledge and new models of care that can lead to better healthcare outcomes for patients who receive care
in a broad range of clinical practice settings.
