Program
Minimum criteria for consideration of a trainee for
admission into IDIP:

Student is committed to working with an IDIP faculty
mentor in a PhD program
-
Student is in good academic standing and has mentor
support
-
Student is a citizen or noncitizen national.
Individuals on temporary or student visas are not
eligible.
Training grant benefits and requirements
The benefits of the fellowship in the IDIP training
grant include the prestige of having won a competitive
grant award, and having your stipend paid, which frees up
your PI's resources. There will be an allowance for
tuition, as well as a generous allowance for training
expenses and a budget for travel to meetings.
The IDIP training grant also comes with certain
specific requirements that are above and beyond those of
the Biomedical Science Graduate Program. These are as
follows:
Required Courses: Bioethics and
Immunopathogenesis of Infectious Diseases
Journal Clubs. One or more relevant journal
club/seminar series each semester of your
fellowship.
Must Present Progress on thesis studies to
the IDIP faculty and trainees annually in form of an
oral presentation.
Application requirements:

A 1-2 page description of research already
accomplished in the mentor's laboratory and future
plans for completing the PhD written by the
student. In addition, an abstract of paper(s) in
preparation, if applicable.

A one-page essay written by the student
describing career goals after completing of the PhD
and why he/she wishes to be an IDIP fellow.

Updated curriculum vitae.

Letter of support from PI and one other faculty
member (within or outside of UNM) who is familiar
with the candidate's work. Faculty who write letters
of support will be ineligible to serve on the
selection committee.

List of courses and grades obtained in the graduate
program. Grades will be verified through the graduate
office.
