Minority Biomedical Research Support Program

The Minority Biomedical Research Support Program (MBRS) was founded by the National Institutes of Health in 1972 to correct the under representation of minorities in biomedical research. The program's primary goal is to develop minority students, faculty and institutional involvement in biomedical research. The program is funded at UNM through an Initiative for Minority Student Development Grant from NIH. This grant encourages domestic private and public educational institutions with fully developed and funded research programs to initiate and/or expand Innovative programs to improve the academic and research capabilities of under represented minority students and to facility their progress toward careers in biomedical research in any phase of their career development, from the undergraduate level through the Ph.D.
