Fellows work in an outpatient clinic organized by Dr. Williams to assess psychogeriatric outpatients and also to follow their own patients following discharge from acute geropsychiatry inpatient care.
Patient population is 70% female, 30% male; ethnicity is approximately 40% Caucasian, 30% Hispanic, 20% Native American and 10% other. Major diagnoses seen in this clinic include affective disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, dementia, psychiatric disorders secondary to medical conditions, and anxiety disorders. Fellows evaluate one new patient and see an additional 3-4 patients for follow-up per clinic.
Additional outpatient experience may be obtained at the Santo Domingo Pueblo clinic and other Indian Health Services sites in both Albuquerque and rural New Mexico, and may also be obtained in psychiatry specialty clinics.
