The Center for Psychiatric Research (CPR) has been conducting research for more than 14 years and is comprised of various Psychiatric groups and specialties with dedicated psychiatrists and staff. The Center is led by Dr. Michael Bogenschutz, Vice Chair for Addictions and Clinical Research. The areas of research being conducted at the Center include:

Schizophrenia & related disorders
Addictions
Brain imaging
Neurodevelopment
And may focus on other psychiatric indications in the near future

Current Research Groups at the Center

The Schizophrenia Research Group, led by Drs. Juan Bustillo, Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and Chris Abbott, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. The group is well-established and has been on the cutting-edge of brain-imaging and psychopharmacological research in people suffering from schizophrenia related disorders. We are committed to helping people with schizophrenia and strive to be a resource for patients, families and practitioners.

The Early Program, led by Drs. Steve Adelsheim and David Graeber. This group is an extension of the schizophrenia research group and is dedicated to helping those experiencing prodromal symptoms of psychosis and other mental illness.

The Addictions Group, led by Drs. Michael Bogenschutz and Claire Wilcox. This group is dedicated to research involving addictions and dual diagnosis issues. In associated with UNM CASAA, the addictions group is on the forefront of research and treatment for alcohol/drug abuse and addiction issues.

The Neuropsychology Group, led by Robert Thoma, Ph.D. This group utilizes brain imaging technology to further scientific understanding of the effects of alcohol on brain development. Other research studies involve sensory processing and neurodevelopment in adolescents.
