The New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners issues an individual training
license for each fellow. This license is obtained through the UNM
Office of Graduate Medical Education. The training license is valid
for the duration of a fellow’s training program (up to a maximum of 7
years) and covers all required activities for the fellowship in
child/adolescent psychiatry. Any activity performed outside of the
training program (such as moonlighting) requires a permanent New Mexico
license to practice medicine (as well, such activities must be approved by
the director of training). Also, some community rotations during the
second year of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry training require hospital
credentialing.
