Application Requirements


The following documentation is required for an application to be considered complete:

·                     Curriculum vitae

·                     ‘Personal Statement’ addressing your interest in psychiatry and your current thoughts about career plans (1-2 pages)

·                     Dean’s letter

·                     Medical School transcript

·                     Letter of reference from a primary care specialist (internal medicine, pediatrics, family practice) addressing your competence in general medicine

·                     Letter of reference from a psychiatrist addressing your potential in this field

·                     One additional letter of reference

·                     Passing scores on Step I and Step II CK & CS of the US Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE), or progress report indicating passing scores will be available by early February

·                     An indication of your class standing (if available)

·                     Reprints of publications (if available)

 

Additional requirements for  International Medical Graduates (IMG’s):

Scores of at least 80% on Step I and Step II CK of the USMLE

Eligibility, upon graduation from medical school, for ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certification or proof of completion of a Fifth pathway program.

At least one letter of reference must be from a practicing US psychiatrist

Strong preference for applicants with at least one year of US clinical experience

 

Please Note: Psychiatry Residency Training Program and the University of New Mexico Graduate Medical Education Office will consider candidates needing visas to train on J-1 VISAS ONLY.
