UNM Dept. of Psychiatry

DRESS CODE GUIDELINES

General Requirements:

It is important for all employees to project a professional image of the UNM Department of Psychiatry.  To create this image to the university and our clients, we have implemented a dress code guideline.  This policy applies to all full and part time Department of Psychiatry employees.  Student employees must adhere to “Business Casual” dress guidelines.  During work hours, employees must be appropriately attired.  Employees must be neat, clean and well groomed.

Business Casual:

“Business casual” dress applies to non-uniform employees and must be with the approval of your immediate supervisor.  The key is “business” casual, which is a privilege that is offered to provide a more comfortable and relaxed work atmosphere.

The following is a list of UNACCEPTABLE attire:

  • Skirts/dresses/walking shorts and dress shorts shorter than 4” above the knee (including slits).
  • Halter-tops, sleeveless undershirts, sleeveless sport jerseys.
  • Clothing with slogans, pictures or advertisements of products which are offensive or obscene.
  • Patio wear, weekend wear, and lounging wear.
  • Tights or leggings, except as under garments.
  • Revealing attire.
  • Low cut blouses or shirts.
  • Jeans not in good repair.
  • Clothing which exposes the midriff.

Any division having an outside guest(s) is responsible for emailing department personnel requesting “Dress up” on those days.
