HRRC Committee Membership
Committee Structure
HRRC committees have diverse membership as required by Federal Regulations:
Every committee is composed of scientific as well
non-scientific members (includes but not limited to
ministers, community representatives, lawyers, ethicists, scientists, and
health care professionals.)
Additionally representatives from the following departments are required
when reviewing a study involving a respective study.
- VA Medical Center (study involving subjects from the VAHCMC)
- Pediatric Department (study involving children or neonates, or
pregnant women)
- Prison Community (study involving prisoners)
Commitment required from Committee Members
The members of the HRRC volunteer their time to serve on this committee.
Members are expected to:
- Attend one meeting per month
- Thoroughly review study document prior to meeting
- Participate in meeting discussions
- Serve for a minimum of 3 years
Members undergo training prior to having voting privileges.
Finding Members
Members are sought from the University based on the need for diversity and
expertise.
Community representatives (individuals who have no affiliation with the
university) are usually harder to find and are often recruited via word of
mouth.
