Office of Animal Care Compliance (OACC)
I want to Submit an Animal Use Protocol, What Do I Do?
- Determine which type of Animal Use Protocol you need to submit.
- The Laboratory Research - Animal Use Protocol form is required if you will be doing work with animals in a laboratory setting.
- The Field Research - Animal Use Protocol form is required if you will be doing field research only. This includes anything from trapping to simple observation
- The Animal Tissue Protocol form is required if you only be working with animal tissues (including blood) that are obtained from a source outside the University (if you will be euthanizing any animals at UNM just for their tissues, then you will need to complete the Laboratory Research Animal Protocol form).
- The Rodent Breeding Protocol form is required for all breeding colonies.
- The Class/Teaching Protocol form is required if you will be using animals (or animal tissues) for a class.
- The Animal Display Protocol form is required to apply for permission to use animals for public display purposes only (e.g., hallways, classrooms, artistic displays).
- Please note that you may be required to fill out more than one
protocol form. For example: if you will be capturing wild species,
euthanizing them, and taking tissues to the lab for further research,
you will need to fill out the Field Research Protocol form and the
Animal Tissue Protocol form.
- Download the appropriate protocol form to your desktop and complete it.
- Once form(s) is complete, go to InfoEd
and upload to submit protocol. Detailed instructions are available
should you need additional assistance with submitting your protocol on InfoEd
