Animal Resource Facility

Access to the ARF

  1. Access Policies
    1. Access to the ARF is limited to personnel that are included on an approved animal use protocol and have completed all required AALAS training
    2. Access to the ARF is strictly controlled by the ARF office
    3. All personnel must display their ID card at all times
    4. All personnel with animal contact must wear an outer protective garment (lab coat) while working with animals (Reminders are posted on ARF entrance doors)
    5. Special Sections of the ARF require additional protective clothing - these provisions are posted at the entrance to these special sections/rooms/suites.
    6. ID Card
      1. Everyone must be in possession of an approved ID card while in the ARF
      2. No "tailgating" is permitted
      3. No one is to be admitted into the ARF without the proper ID card
      4. Upon departure from the UNM HSC, or if ARF access is no longer needed, all personnel are required to notify the Animal Resource Facility, and UNM Hospital Security Office to "deactivate" their card, and HSC Lock Shop Technologies to turn in all issued keys.

  2. Obtaining Access
    1. The Animal Resource Facility authorizes access. The University Hospital issues ID cards and HSC Lock Technologies issues keys
      1. Obtain a key card request form from the ARF Office
      2. Submit the completed key request form to the HSC Lock office
      3. Obtain a badge access authorization request from Animal Resource Facility
      4. Take the (approved) badge authorization request form to the University Hospital Security Office

    2. Keys
      1. Some animal rooms require keys for admission.
      2. Determine if you need a key for an animal room
      3. Request a key for a specific animal room on the key card request form from the ARF or the HSC Lock Technologies Office
      4. PIs may request a single key for the entire laboratory staff - the PI is held responsible for the key.
      5. Keys must not be "loaned out".
      6. Upon departure from the UNM HSC, or if ARF access is no longer needed, all keys must be returned to the HSC Lock Technologies Office

         

  3. Security and Alarms
    1. All Entrances to the UNM HSC ARF are controlled by a security system linked directly to the UNM Police Department and UNM Hospital Security
    2. Additional access control, security measures, and "surveillance" technology is installed in all areas
    3. After Hours Activity:
      1. Additional Security Measures are in place during very late / early hours.
      2. If you anticipate working after 12:00 PM, or prior to 5:00 AM within the ARF, please notify the ARF office.
