Welcome to Research, Education, Training, & Career Development (RETCD)

Because the UNM Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) seeks to more rapidly move new discovery to the bedside and community practice in a sustained manner, the Research Education, Training, and Career Development (RETCD) component will assist the CTSC by training a new generation of clinical and translational investigators, recruited from all levels of investigators including undergraduate and graduate students, and new and established faculty. The transformative organization, educational approach, and training programs established by RETCD will reinvigorate our training efforts and increase the number of investigators with training in clinical and translational research throughout the continuum of learners from undergraduates to faculty.

Through novel approaches to training and education that are planned and being implemented, ranging from public seminars and podcasts to intensive mentored career development, we will build a network of researchers committed to sound research and scholarship conducted in an ethical and culturally sensitive manner; and establish statewide clinical and educational networks with integrated educational, training, and research programs.

To interest a diverse set of residents, fellows, and faculty in clinical and translational research, RETCD offers multiple training opportunities that can accommodate challenging schedules, a wide range of goals, and a varying set of research interests.

Among these offerings will be the Clinical Investigators’ Program; the certificate programs in: Clinical and Translational Science (CTS),  Public Health, Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), and Biomedical Informatics (BMI); the Statewide Undergraduate Pipeline; the Masters of Science: Concentration in Clinical Research Program (MSCR); the Mentor Training Program; and the Mentored Career Development Program (MCDP).

All of these programs are administered by the Biomedical Research Education Program (BREP) office.
