Personnel

Bruce S. Edwards. Ph.D.

SFCR Director
Dr. Edwards is a Research Professor of Pathology in the University of New Mexico Cancer Research and Treatment Center. He received his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1979, and four subsequent years of post-doctoral training at the University of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center in Madison. He came to New Mexico in 1984 where he directed a research laboratory and the Flow Cytometry Facility at the Lovelace Medical Foundation (now Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute) for thirteen years, moving to UNM in 1997. He lists more than 50 peer-reviewed publications describing research studies in cellular immunology, signal transduction and cell adhesion. Dr. Edwards provides consulting resources for investigators wishing to develop new research applications in flow cytometry, needing consulting support in grant applications, or requiring help in data analysis and interpretation.

Mark B. Carter, M.S.

Manager, Central Facility Laboratory
Mark Carter has over a dozen years of experience in cell biology. He received an M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of New Mexico in 2002 and was Head of Flow Cytometry and Cell Biology at Protalex, Inc. in Albuquerque, NM, for 4 years before coming to the shared facility in 2004. Mark is also Manager of Automation for the New Mexico Molecular Libraries Screening Center at the UNM Cancer Research Facility.

Susan M. Young, M.S.

Manager, Microtechnology Laboratory
Susan Young has more than 20 years experience in cell biology. She received an M.S. in Medical Sciences at the University of New Mexico in 1986 and was Director of Immunodiagnostics at the Albuquerque division of Biotek Imaging for 3 years before coming to UNM in 2001. She is primarily responsible for microassay development and high throughput screening activities in the Microtechnology Laboratory.
