Human Tissue Repository Mission Statement

The mission of the UNM Department of Pathology / Cancer Center Tissue Human Bank Repository (HTR) is to serve as a repository for human tissue samples to support future diagnostic and research efforts in an ethically sound and responsible manner.

Plan
The UNM Tissue Bank is in the Cancer Research and Treatment Center (CRTC) Building on the North campus of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With IRB oversight and approval, the UNM Tissue Bank collects neoplastic and non-neoplastic tissue samples.  Policies are available for review and are subject to modification in the future without notice. The HTR is provided policy and technical guidance by the Human Tissue Oversight Committee and is under the HSC Office of Research.  Review of the scientific merit of tissue based investigation for the HTR is provided by the Human Tissue Scientific Review Committee.

Tissue Requests
Tissue requests can be made via our Tissue Request Form. All requests will be evaluated for availability of tissue and scientific validity of request. The HRRC approval of each project will be confirmed. Following this assessment, the submitting PI will be notified of the SRC's decision and, if approved, the tissue request will be filled in a timely fashion.

Please see the Policy for the Oversight of Human Tissue in Research.
