To maintain awareness of research activities, policy issues and funding opportunities in the School of Medicine and to keep the Senior Associate Dean of Research informed on these issues.

To encourage research across clinical and basic science departments, and within the HSC, main campus, the National Laboratories, the VA and other research enterprises.

To focus on areas of strategy, mentoring, allocation of resources, and the dissemination of information to School of Medicine faculty about biomedical research.

To participate in the design and implementation of School of Medicine faculty-research retreats and to follow-up on issues derived from the retreat.

To support and improve the research environment and culture

To work in cooperation with the Senior Associate Dean for Research to meet the research mission of the School of Medicine.

To develop and implement research opportunities in collaboration with the Research Executive Council.
