Dr. Aric Coffman received his medical degree from the University of
Oklahoma in 1999 and completed residency training in General Surgery here at
University of New Mexico. Dr. Coffman is currently practicing at the
Lovelace Medical Center.
Dr. John Corson received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1968. He did post-graduate surgical training in the UK until 1975 when he came to the United Sates as a research fellow at Boston University. He completed a surgical residency at Boston University in 1980 and then did a Vascular Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1981. He is board certified in General and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Gerald Demarest is the Chief of Clinical Operations and received his MD Degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York in 1973 and completed residency training in General Surgery at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals in Seattle, Washington. He earned a fellowship in Research Burn and Trauma at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Demarest is a professor at the University of New Mexico Department of Surgery. His special interests and expertise are Burn and Trauma, Would Care and Surgery. Dr. Stuart Ford is currently practicing at the Albuquerque Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Glenroy Heywood received his degree from University of New York in 1990 and completed residency training in Surgery at UMDNJ, New Jersey, SOM. He earned a fellowship in Surgery and is board certified in Surgery. Dr. Carey Hill received her degree from Albany Medical College in 1996 and completed residency training in General Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences. She earned a fellowship in Surgical Intensive Care. Dr. Thomas R. Howdieshell is an Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of the Medical College of Georgia (1982). His General Surgery residency training was also at the Medical College of Georgia, finishing in 1987. He completed a Trauma/Burns/Surgical Critical Care fellowship at the University of New Mexico HSC from 1987-1988. He was a surgical faculty member at MCG from 1988 through 2002. He joined the Department of Surgery at UNM HSC in July 2002, and is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery. He is board certified and recertified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians. His clinical practice includes trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and burn surgery. He conducts basic science research in the area of wound healing. Dr. Erika Ketteler received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1996 and completed her General Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She also received her Masters in Bioethics at the Medical College of Wisconsin and then completed a Palliative Care Fellowship at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. Her Vascular Surgery Fellowship was completed at the University of Chicago in 2006. She is an assistant professor at the University of New Mexico and a staff surgeon at the Albuquerque VA. Dr. Darra D. Kingsley received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1996 and completed her General Surgery Residency at the University of New Mexico. She is board certified in Surgery. Dr. Kingsley is currently an assistant professor and the Associate Residency Program Director for the department of surgery at UNM. She serves as the Section Chief of General Surgery at the Albuquerque Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Mark Langsfeld received his MD Degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1982 and completed residency training in General Surgery at St. Louis University Hospitals. He earned a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is board certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Langsfeld is an associate professor at the University of New Mexico Department of Surgery and chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery. Dr. Reuben Last received his Bachelor of Science from City University of New York in 1985 and was a graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1992. He completed a 5 year residency in Surgery at the University of New Mexico in 1997 and a 2001 fellowship year in Vascular Surgery at the University of Sydney in Australia. Dr. David Lemon received his MD Degree from the University of Washington in 1983 and completed residency training in General Surgery at Brown University. He earned a fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Babies Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Lemon is board certified in General and Pediatric Surgery. He is an assistant professor at the University of New Mexico Department of Surgery. Dr. Stephen Lu received his degree from George Washington University in 1994 and completed residency training in General Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences. He earned a fellowship in Trauma. Dr. John Marek received his MD Degree from the University if Cincinnati in 1988 and completed his residency training in General Surgery at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver. He completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the University of Arizona Hospitals, Tuscon and is board certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Marek is an assistant professor at the University of New Mexico Department of Surgery and Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Albuquerque VAMC. His special interest and expertise is vascular surgery with clinical and research interests in endovascular approaches to vascular disease. Dr. Jonathan Marinaro received his MD degree from the University of Colorado in 2000 and completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine here at the University of New Mexico in 2003. He completed his Fellowship in Trauma/Critical Care at the Maryland Shock Trauma Institute in 2005. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Bruce Mathis received his MD degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1993 and completed his residency in General Surgery at Mississippi at Keesler Medical Center in 1998. He completed his Fellowship in General Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at Biloxi VA in 1999. He also served as Assistant Clinical Professor at Wright-Patterson AFB Medical Center in Dayton, OH for four years. He is Board Certified in General Surgery. Dr. Robert Milne is currently practicing at Presbyterian. Dr. David Pitcher graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1986 and completed his General Surgery Residency at UNM in 1992. Dr. Pitcher completed a fellowship in Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery at UNM in 1993. He is board certified in Surgery. Dr. Pitcher served as a staff physician at the Albuquerque VA from 1992 through 2002 and was Chief of Surgery there from 1999 through 2002. He is now an Associate Professor with the University of New Mexico, Department of Surgery and is the Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs for the School of Medicine. Dr. John Russell received his degree from Harvard Medical School in 1975 and completed residency training in Surgery at Hartford Hospital, the University of CT. He is board certified in Surgery. Dr. Dale Strawn received his degree from UCLA School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his general surgery residency training at UC Davis in 1987. He worked as an associate professor of surgery at UC Davis from 1988-1992. His special interests are vascular surgery, critical care and wound healing. He is board certified in general surgery and critical care. Dr. William Syme is currently practicing at Lovelace Medical Center. Dr. Maria Terry received her degree from Medical College of Wisconsin in 1993 and completed residency training in General Surgery at MCP Hahnemann University. She completed an Advanced Endosurgery fellowship at Emory University. She is board certified in Surgery.
Dr. Terry is currently an assistant professor and the Assistant Residency Program Director for the department of surgery at UNM. Dr. Anthony R. Vigil graduated from UNM SOM in 1993. He completed general surgery residency training at UNM in 1998. He was in private practice in Silver City, New Mexico from 1998 to 2004. He is board certified in general surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Vigil is an assistant professor at the University of New Mexico Department of Surgery. Dr. Anne Marie Wallace received her degree from the University of Arizona, College of Medicine in 1997 and completed residency training at University of Louisville, KY and Carilion Health System (Roanoke, VA). She was the 2003-2004 Susan G. Komen Fellow at Stanford University in Breast Surgical Oncology. She is an assistant professor of Surgery at UNM and is board certified in Surgery.
