The World Health Organization designated the UNM School of Medicine
as a Collaborating Center for the Dissemination of Community-Oriented,
Problem-Based Education.
Nine medical
educators and a translator from Peking University Health Sciences
Center in the People's Republic of China visited the University of
New Mexico for the month of April 2006. They were interested in
learning about and observing our curriculum, particularly
problem-based learning, and participating in our teaching skills
workshops. Their stay here was mutually beneficial and served as the
foundation for ongoing collaborations between our two institutions.
They are shown here with staff members of the Offices of Teacher &
Educational Development (TED) and Program Evaluation, Education, and
Research (PEAR).
A
Tutor Training and Case Development workshop was conducted in September
for a group of medical professionals studying in the Masters of Medical Education (MME) Program in Bern, Switzerland. Pictured are participants, UNM SOM faculty who facilitated the workshop,
and staff from Teacher & Educational Development (TED) who provided logistical
support.
Health sciences faculty from across the world have been coming to
New Mexico to explore innovative approaches to medical education since
the early 1980s.
The Division of Educational Development and Research serves as a point
of contact for visiting faculty. Teacher and Educational Development
