Description:
The ACGME, LCME, and other accreditation organizations are now requiring documentation of competency in healthcare communication skills. This workshop will demystify the teaching and assessment of this competency by giving participants an evidence-based rationale, a vocabulary to describe the specific tasks and behaviors, and tools to teach, assess, and enhance communication skills performance for their learners in a variety of settings.


Target Audience:

MD, PhD, PA-C, PT, OT, Other.
All Health Sciences faculty who assess medical student and/or resident communication skills competency.

Objectives:
After this session, participants should be able to:
• List 7 essential elements of healthcare communication
• Recognize effective and ineffective communication behaviors in a videotape of a
   healthcare encounter
• Apply a behaviorally-based global rating scale for these skills when observing a
   learner
• Evaluate several methodologies for assessing communication skills in clinical
   settings

Length/Frequency:
