Description:
This is a literature-based, interactive workshop that provides information about the many teaching techniques that use formative assessment to enhance student learning. Learn and apply the techniques that are most suitable to your specific teaching setting--large lecture, small group, or ward rounds.
Topics explored include definition of terms, empirical evidence around the impact of formative testing on learning, assessment technique demonstration, application of assessment techniques to participant's teaching setting.


Target Audience:

MD, PhD, PA-C, PT, OT, Other.
All Health Sciences faculty who create test items for physician assistant and medical students.


Objectives:

After this session, participants should be able to:
• Define the phrase "formative assessment" and compare and contrast formative    with summative assessment.
• Describe the impact of formative testing on learning.
• Review the characteristics of a varied set of practical "classroom" assessment
   techniques that provide student and faculty feedback on students' achievement
   of learning objectives.
• Choose specific "classroom" assessment techniques that will address commonly
   encountered student learning difficulties.

Length/Frequency:
