Description:
Feedback is an integral part of the learning process, and constructive feedback is precious to the student. In the context of clinical medical education, it is crucial for students to receive information about their behaviors from those in a position to make valid observations.

 

• Do you know what constitutes constructive, effective verbal feedback?
• Can you frame and format feedback to promote student learning?
• Do you have the skills to approach a challenging student with feedback (one who
   may be defensive, anxious, avoidant or angry)?
• Are you prepared to make the best use of your opportunities?

Target Audience: 
MD, PhD, PT, OT, PA-C, Other Clinical Faculty

Objectives:
After this session, participants should be able to:
• Describe and apply feedback skills
        Define constructive, effective feedback
        Describe opportunities for feedback
        Explain the difference between formative and evaluative feedback
        Practice structuring feedback for optimal learning
• Overcome obstacles
        Discuss difficult feedback situations
        Develop strategies for feedback with a challenging student
 
Preparation::
Reflect on your own experiences giving and receiving feedback, or when you have observed feedback being given. Recall any examples that were painful or particularly challenging.

Length/Frequency:
This three-hour workshop is offered two to four times a year.  Upcoming dates are listed in the Calendar section.

Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing

Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

 

The Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this educational activity
