Description:
This workshop offers strategies and useful techniques for conducting effective teaching in a busy clinic setting, which can be challenging to both the teacher and the learner.  Role-playing is used as a way of demonstrating "effective" and "ineffective" approaches to teaching in a clinic setting.  Participants have the opportunity to practice these roles in small groups working through medical or other types of cases.

Target Audience:
MD, PhD, PT, OT, DDS, DVM, RN, PA-C, Others

Objectives:
After this session, participants should be able to:
• Identify effective and ineffective strategies for teaching in the outpatient setting
• Describe the process of outpatient teaching and provide examples of each
• Explain the skills involved in effective outpatient teaching and provide examples of    each
• Describe differences in approaches to teaching effectively in the outpatient versus    inpatient setting.
• Apply strategies for teaching effectively in the outpatient setting
• Apply guidelines for giving and receiving constructive performance-based feedback

This three and a half hour workshop is offered twice a year.  Upcoming dates are listed in the Calendar section.

CME Credit Hours:
The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Office of Continuing Medical Education, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
